Università della Finlandia Orientale
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. It was established in 2010, following a decision by the University of Joensuu (est. 1969) and the University of Kuopio (est. 1972) to join forces in a merger. The university comprises four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. It has 2,750 employees, 16,000 degree students and 27,000 adult education students. The campuses are located in Joensuu and Kuopio.
The IRENE´s project partner is from the Philosophical Faculty. It is the School of Applied Educational Science and Teacher Education. It currently offers Finland’s most versatile teacher training. UEF is the only university in Finland that trains teachers of religion for both Christian denominations (Orthodox and Evangelical Lutheran). Contact person: Senior Lecturer Risto Aikonen.
